" ... Crucial made available a firmware update that significantly changed the performance profile of their M4 SSD ... the Crucial drive offered more consistent performance with all data types, thanks to the characteristics of its Marvell-built controller, which handles highly compressible and non-compressible data similarly".

"The M4 also did a better job of keeping its performance in our "used drive torture test" but I won't pay much attention to that test, as it doesn't replicate real performance as well. That being said, the M4 won most overall tests that use relatively common levels of compression. That includes 4K IO transfer, and both versions of PCMark."

"Crucial's m4 256GB solid state drive is a little gem. It can supply very fast read and write transfer rates, and it will noticeably boost the performance of a laptop or desktop PC when it's used as a system drive. Sure, it's quite expensive, but like many famous musicians have proclaimed: "you gotta to pay the cost to be the boss."

"As you can see, the Crucial M4 was by far the least expensive drive looking at its cost per GB. If you want a high capacity drive and work with lots of incompressible data, the M4 is a fine choice."

Tweaktown Best Value Award
"The Crucial m4 128GB is a solid buy that will increase your user experience by running your daily tasks quickly...What we learned today is that the Crucial m4 is a real competitor to the SandForce SF-2281 controlled drives with 25nm IMFT flash....What we are left with is a next generation SATA III SSD that is more than fast enough for nearly all users and a very good value when compared to the competition….The Bottom Line: The Crucial m4 128GB is a solid buy that will increase your user experience by running your daily tasks quickly. If you're buying the drive for a desktop don't forget to add a bracket."

"As stated right from the outset, finding this SSD even lower was a huge benefit although, myself, I might be more inclined to purchase directly from Crucial, given that I would want the security of a direct sale and customer support for such a purchase. Considering the cost, performance and reputation, Crucial once again grabs the Editors Choice for the M4 512GB SSD!"

"Construction is probably the strongest feature credited to the entire SSD product segment, and Crucial products have never offered any exception. Solid State Drives are by nature immune to most abuses, but add to this a hard metal shell and you have to wonder what it would take to make this drive fail. If a Crucial m4/Micron RealSSD C400-series SSD product fails during the limited 3-year warranty period, end-users can contact Lexar/Crucial via the company website or SSD support forum. There's also a toll-free telephone number for support or customer service questions available at 800-336-8915."

"The only words that seem to come to mind right now are ‘Lesson learned’. Crucial has sent us a product that is not only the best performing 2.5? SSD drive on the market today, but also, we have no doubt of its positioning as other SATA 3 SSDs are released. Although the M4's SATA 3 scores are as expected, its true strength lies in its absolutely amazing 4k random write performance of 98MB/s which translates to real life performance."
